McGintys 2004 Tauranga Harbour Challenge
Even one month old baby Cameron got into the spirit of things when he came down to cheer on the paddlers, who battled it out on the Tauranga Harbour this weekend. Once again we were blessed with great conditions, making it good racing for all. Kiwi Kaihoe from Te Nui a Te Ika OCC set the mark high for the Women's race, completing the 25km course in 2hr 00min 55s.
It's an awesome feeling going out on to the start line, and looking across the water to see over 250 fellow paddlers sitting next to you. The tension starts to mount as everyone waits for the red flag to drop, and you're off. Team Good Year from Te Au Rere Waka Ama Club showed their dominance once again, finishing the Open Men's race with a lead of over 3 minutes. In a time of 1hr 45min 54s. Following the races, paddlers and spectators were then entertained by a Cook Island dance group and Kapa Haka performance, before dinner and prize giving. Club Spot prizes Pakuranga OCC won the W6 trolley sponsored by Brian Henry of Dadz Paddles. Desktop Background How we can run such a big event for just $25 per person ?
and also with the help of over 80 volunteers who donate their time and effort for you. The Teams And also a big thanks to all those paddlers who traveled from all over the country to make the event. See you at the next challenge 2005 Tauranga Moana OCC
